Drop the Mic and Drop the Stones

Read the Word:  “But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, 'He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her’ ” (John 8:7).

Apply the Word: Dropping one's microphone at the end of a speech displays a bold confidence that the speech has been very impressive and or cannot be topped. Our passage today shows a Jesus who "dropped the mic" and the mic fell right into the laps of the religious hypocrites.  My mother used to tell my siblings and me that when you point your finger at someone, three fingers are pointing back at you. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and the Psalmist says that "there is no one who does good, not even one" (Psalm 14:3). Now knowing our sinful nature does not give us a green light to sin, it is only a reminder to be full of grace, full of mercy, and a little less judgmental. And by the way, in regards to the Scripture above, doesn’t it take two to tango? They said that the woman was caught in the very act of adultery (John 8:4). Well, where was the man? Let’s drop some of the “stones of condemnation” and pick up forgiveness and give it to others who need it.
