Envy

Read the Word:  “A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot” (Proverbs 14:30).  

Apply the Word: Envy has been described as resenting the special touch of God on someone else’s life while ignoring the special touch of God on your own life.  J.A. Kitchen says “it describes the eating away of a person’s life from the inside out. In modern terms, such passion eats away at a person like a cancer. One’s ‘bones’ are often used in Proverbs to describe one’s core physical condition.” In a nutshell, envy does more harm to the envious person. The remedy is to focus on what God has done for you and to reflect on one’s own gifts and talents. Begin thanking God for your talents and gifts and continue using them to the maximum.
